A LITTLE ABOUT US

After purchasing the Sŵn Y Môr in 2012, our top priority has always been to offer a quality service at an affordable price. What makes Llandudno so unique, is a combination of its history and Victorian charm. This is incredibly important to us and we ensure that we retain all if its original features when we make improvements. We are proud to tell people that the Sŵn Y Môr is family owned and incredibly grateful that we are able to do something that we enjoy doing.

We are so incredibly passionate about the service we provide to our guests and want to make sure that nobody just feels like a number. Thanks to the size of the Swn Y Mor, we can keep the team down to just the 2 of us and maintain the levels of service that are important to us.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The building was originally constructed in 1856 and was a permanent home to a small Victorian family. As was so often the case at this time, lodgers were taken in and records show that some of them stayed for quite some time.

The property was purchased in 1936 by Ernest Jones and his wife and was subsequently converted into a hotel called ‘The Ventnor’. Llandudno continued to grow as a tourist destination and in the late 1990s the hotel changed its name. It was now called the Sŵn Y Môr, which is perfect considering its perfect location so close to the sea!

In 2004, Jean and Ron McQuade purchased the property and it was eventually brought by its current owners, Chris and Steven.

Absolutely wonderful. Hotel is pretty central. About 5 min walk to the pier and smack bang in the middle of the promonarde. Positioned opposite the sea. Quiet location at night. Carpark at the rear of the hotel was an added bonus. The hotel is spotless, warm and welcoming. We had a room at the front over looking the sea on the 3rd floor. Room was clean and comfortable. Good selection at breakfast, and more importantly it was hot. When visiting Llandudno, be mindful to reserve tables well in advance when eating out as due to covid, everywhere was booked up. Saying that... and to be perfectly honest, we ate in the hotel on the second night of our 2 night stay and had an outstanding home cooked meal. Far better than some of the over priced restaurant meals in town. Well done Chris. The garlic bread was wonderful. Chris and Steve (apologies if I've got names wrong) went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Nothing was too much trouble. 2 really nice and genuine people. Could actually hold an easy conversation with either of them, which was really nice. It doesn't cost much, but when we left, they gave us a small packet of travel sweets for the journey home. Not sure if this is something which they do as part of the business or because of covid, but it was a really nice gesture and was very much appreciated. Would we recommend the hotel. Definately. Would we go back. Definately. Do they apply covid rules and requirements. Yes. To the letter... Thank you.

Just back from a two night stay at Swn Y Mor where, having stayed many times before, we knew we would be well looked after to the highest of standards. Chris and Steven are always warm and welcoming and their attention to detail to provide Covid secure accommodation cannot be faulted. Literally every detail has been considered from the moment you check in until the moment you leave. Online check in was simple, removed the need for form filling and enabled us to provide contact details for track and trace. Check out can be carried out by email or over the phone if preferred. The usual warm welcome was still there on arrival and throughout our stay, with social distancing always observed. Our room key was sanitised in front of us and our room was spotlessly clean (as always) with everything that cannot be sanitised or washed, having been removed. Necessary and sensible changes have been made, such as rooms only being cleaned every 3 days to enable them to remain a safe space. The Guest Hub that has been set up allows you to easily request items that would usually be replenished daily, as well as ordering evening meals or drinks. There is the option to have a breakfast box delivered to your room, or to take breakfast in the dining room. The usual buffet items have been removed but are available by ordering from menus, which are laminated to enable sanitising between guests. Face masks are always worn when food is being served and tables thoroughly cleaned between guests. We ate out in Llandudno on our first night but unfortunately, the place we chose had virtually no Covid secure measures in place and we couldn’t wait to leave! The following evening we used the Guest Hub to order an evening meal at Swn Y Mor and were treated to a delicious, top quality, home cooked meal - definitely the way forward for future visits! Chris and Steven really have thought of everything and despite all the extra work that has been created for them, still, nothing is too much trouble and the welcome is as warm and genuine as ever. We can’t imagine ever considering staying anywhere else when we visit Llandudno and can’t wait for our next visit. This was a much needed break, thank you for everything you have done to ensure we felt safe and relaxed in these strange times.

The hosts make this place spectacular! Their breakfasts, rooms, evening meals...all outstanding but made extra special because of the hosts. We've lost count of how many times we've visited, and we wouldn't have it any other way. 💚

Located on the seafront, we received a warm welcome from Chris and Steve. The rooms are lovely, well furnished and very clean. Bathrooms are modern too. Breakfast is locally sourced and delicious. Evening meals are available, and highly recommended. Wouldn't think of staying anywhere else now.
